Our goal

PDflex has been structured in such a way that provides a tool to process partial discharge pulses acquired by unconventional measuring circuits. It offers frequency and time domain methods for computation of charge, energy and peak amplitude, and customized clusters, which are robust and scientific mathematical techniques. Its graphical interface makes it easy for academic purposes. For students or newcomers, in the section download, a selection of raw data examples are available to try out with the software and get familiar with the field. Then, PDflex serves mainly two purposes: academic and research.

… Academic Use

The HIgh Voltage Laboratory conducts teaching, across the whole range from bachelor to PhD students, of high voltage techniques for monitoring and diagnostics that include partial discharge techniques. However, we know that there exists still many limitations to access quality and up-to-date information in many educational institutions around the world. As a response, TU Delft High Voltage Laboratory has come with this website as a contribution to the understanding and teaching of PD field. Free access to PDflex, examples of raw data and (soon) posts about recommended practices, case of studies and tutorials, are offered to the academic community to serve this goal.

… Research Use

The free access to the software and raw data means that divulgation and sharing of knowledge is a priority for us. Nowadays, when it comes to testing new methods or algorithms for the computation of partial discharge parameters there are no options in the market to run benchmarking studies. Thus, PDflex was specially designed to process data in .mat files which is a widespread format in laboratory measurements.

You or your research group has developed a method for calculation of PD parameters? Contact us and join this project. We can code your method in  PDflex and make it available for everyone. Of course, We will respect your authorship rights!. This way, all we can take advantage of this website and contribute making it a scientific showroom.
